Integrating Telehealth and Telecare — the NHS whole systems demonstrator in Newham

Charles Lowe
NeAT Programme Director, Newham Advanced Telecare,
London Borough of Newham

NeAT (Newham Advanced Telecare), an alliance between Newham Council, Newham Homes, Newham Primary Care Trust, the metropolitan police, and Newham Voluntary Services Consortium, was formed in 2005 to assist local people to continue to live independently with dignity, purpose and control of their lives. NeAT began rolling telecare out in late 2005 and set out to expand its service, which at the time had around 400 service users.

Since the launch of the service in 2005, NeAT has achieved an incredible rate of telecare installations in the London borough. Working in partnership with Tunstall, in just three months, NeAT fitted over 1,000 standard packages, taking their total number of installations to date to 2,000.

This presentation will summarise the approach NeAt has taken to mainstream telecare, the experiences so far and lessons learned.
